4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their personal practices. Teachers:
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools

1. List the ways in which you model digital citizenship and responsibility. Include specifics that demonstrate how you teach and promote safe, legal and ethical use of digital information and technology.
Before my students complete research on the internet, we discuss "bad sites" and "good sites." I explain to them what to look for in a good site and some things that could be on a bad site. We discuss the fact that just about anyone can post anything on the internet and that not all information is true and accurate. We discuss other ways to research information like using encyclopedias and books, and we discuss looking at numerous websites. I also tell them what to do if they accidently click on a "bad site."

Other things I do to promote using technology safely is demonstrate how to hold a laptop and how to use the laptop (these were new to our students this year). Also, I set up tracks for my students to use for research and post resources on our class webpage for students to use.

1a. List at least 2 ways in which you can improve your role as a digital citizen.

-Instead of just discussing websites, I could teach my students more about the Internet. The only times we really use the Internet is for research and games. We could talk more about why the Internet is out there and safe ways to use it.
-I could also talk to my students about blogging and personal webpages. We could discuss what should be posted online and what shouldn't be posted.

2. List resources that could help you grow in this area.

Summarize your list in 1a in the form of an action that you will take. This statement will be transferred to your action plan page.

In order to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility, I am going to teach my students more about the Internet, use the Internet for more then just research, and discuss blogging and personal websites.
